I do not want the internet as I live opposite the college so I use college computers - do I still have to pay for the phone?

Unfortunately since we specialize in student lettings and cater for the vast majority needs. It is thus assumed you need a telephone and internet connection. Should you cancel the telephone line you will be charged for reconnecting following discovery of the connection being severed. It costs only £120 pa to keep a line active but disproportionally £160 to reconnect.
In order for you to save £120 any new tenant would have to pay £160 to restore the connection.
Thus whilst it might seem unfair to pay for a service you do not need it is still payable.

BT say there is a tag on the line preventing our new connection, what does this mean for us?
|
If the previous tenants have taken over the phone line and not ended the connection prior to or after departure this can temporarily prevent a new connection being established. |
Simply ask BT to provide a new number and cancel the old connection.
Provided you do this within 3 months of the old connection expiring you may not need to pay a reconnection fee (currently about £150) |
