Heat Pumps

  • Heat Pumps are promoted to reduce carbon footprint.
  • Old and outdated fossil fuel heating systems are less energy efficient - this includes gas.
  • Electric heating is more energy efficient, particularly if generated by energy saving means e.g. wind turbines.
  • More efficient (sealed) combi-boilers (as opposed to conventional open systems) are nevertheless less efficient than heat pumps.
  • To be effective a house must be fully cavity and wall insulated and fitted not with double glazing but with triple glazing and insulated roofs ideally fitted with solar panels (and while you are at it install electric storage batteries).
  • Grants of up to £5000 are proposed from April 2022 to assist such measures.
