Sheltered Housing
- An independently owned property (usually as part of a block of flats). owned by the occupants as a leasehold.
- Usually occupied as homes for elderly, vulnerable or disabled people.
- Most such housing includes as standard:
- easy access doors, showers kitchen, etc.
- Communal lounges help avoid isolation.
- Resident wardens occupy their own flats within the block or very local.
- Alarm buttons are readily available to call for assistance in an emergency.
- Meals can also be provided depending on the level of dependence or preference.
- Visitors can visit freely.
- A high degree of independence is maintained with such support, absent which a higher degree of support might be required e.g. as in care homes.
