The Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm (England) Regulations 2015 made it compulsory for all rented properties to be fitted with smoke detectors on every floor as a minimum.

• Carbon Monoxide Alarms must also be fitted in areas with a solid fuel burning appliance.
• At the start of each new tenancy smoke and CO detectors must be tested.
• During tenancies tenants are encouraged to test alarms weekly.
