Overpayments
- Housing benefit overpayments may be clawed back from tenants and even from landlords if they were aware the tenant was not entitled e.g. the tenant is no longer resident.
- Overpayments of rent can occur when tenants set up more than one standing order. Repayment occurs by reversal or by returning the money to the account.
- Overpayments can be used by scammers to defraud honest people. When an over payment is received it must first be allowed to clear with no risk of reversal prior to returning. This can result in delays in returning.
