Dual Benefit
- This is a housing benefit payment paid for more than one home simultaneously - but only if this is unavoidable.
- A tenant in receipt of housing benefit is exposed to Dual Liability of rent and risks losing their new rented home to others unless both rents are paid.
- This can occur when a tenant moves to a new home but leaves outstanding rent on the previous home.
- If a tenant leaves a home due to threats of violence, but wants to return when safe to do so, then dual benefit may be justified.
- A large family residing between two homes may qualify
- A student couple living apart in separate homes in pursuit of their education might qualify in some circumstances.
